On Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 1:46 a.m., Deputy Justin Marszalek was on patrol in the area of Main and Maple in Hesperia when he conducted a vehicle stop for vehicle code violations. Upon attempting contact with the driver, the suspect accelerated away from the deputy at a high rate of speed, running several stop signs. Deputy Marszalek followed the vehicle at a safe distance south on Maple and then east on Ranchero.
The suspect vehicle continued on at a high rate of speed and crashed just east of 7th Street at a dead end. The vehicle struck a dip in the roadway which catapulted it into the air and then rolled over several times. The driver was ejected from the vehicle. Medical aid responded and the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The San Bernardino County Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting an investigation into the crash and the Coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
