Los Angeles County sheriff's officials are still investigating the officer involved shooting that happened early this morning in the 700 block of E. Holt Avenue in Pomona.

Detectives have learned that a Hispanic boy was driving erratically at Holt and Mountain View Avenues in Pomona about 1:45 a.m..

A Pomona police officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped off and crashed into a nearby alley, said Sheriff's Lt. John Hocking.

The officer got out of his police car and started to approach the boy, who put his vehicle in reverse and tried to run over the officer, Hocking said.

"Fearing for his life, the officer fired his duty weapon, hitting the juvenile once in the upper torso," Hocking said.

The boy was taken to an area-hospital and is listed in critical condition, Hocking said.

The sheriff's department handles investigations of officer involved shootings for certain police departments, including Pomona.

If the story is accurate the "boy" should be tried as an adult for attempting to murder a peace officer.

Replace "boy" with "juvenile" and put some ambiguity into who got shot for whatever reason..."boy" makes it sound as though he did not understand by trying to run over the cop that he might, in fact, get shot.

amazing how this rag always has to use words to make someone seem so innocent. The word boy!! This boy is going to turn out to be a hardcore gang member probably in possession of a gun in a stolen car. Get a clue Daily Bulletin. There is no reason at all to use terms just to make hardcore criminals and gangmembers appear innocent and like a victim. Good job cop. Another piece of garbage off the street and in jail where he belongs. If the cop was a good shot the gangster will be dead too.
