A lieutenant junior grade pleaded not guilty Thursday to a charge that he repeatedly raped a girl between the ages of 12 and 16.

Lt. j.g. Terry Hampleton, 38, of South Carolina, will face a general court-martial in San Diego. He is charged with rape, failure to obey a regulation and adultery, stemming from allegations he cheated on his wife with a female sailor who was an operations specialist second class, according to Navy records.

The alleged rapes of the underage girl occurred between June 2006 and January 2007, Navy records show.

Hampleton, who has served more than 20 years in the Navy, was commissioned in 2005. He is a security officer assigned to the Navy Criminal Investigative Service’s security training assistance and assessment team. The team’s missions include advising foreign countries on port security, Navy records show.

He remains assigned to NCIS pending the court-martial’s outcome, said Navy spokesman Brian O’Rourke

Before becoming an officer, Hampleton was a chief master at arms.
