Sheriff's officials arrested 32-year-old Gregory White Jr. of Rancho Cucamonga Wednesday on suspicion of corporal injury to a cohabitant and assault with a firearm after the Jan. 4 incident. He was booked at Central Detention Center and held on $1 million bail. Because of the incident, White lost his job with the Police Department, said deputy District Attorney Michele Daly.
"He's no longer a police officer, which we thought was important under the circumstances," she said.
San Bernardino Police Chief Michael Billdt said he could not commment on White's status with the department or how long he worked there because the issue was a personnel matter.
Daly said White will serve 60 days in jail on weekends and will participate in domestic violence court. The assault with a firearm charge was dismissed.
After the incident earlier this month, White's girlfriend needed medical attention but did not need to be admitted to the hospital, said Sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Beavers. The investigation began at the beginning of last week because of a delay before the incident was reported, Beavers said. As of Friday afternoon, White was still being held at Central Detention Center.
