REDLANDS -- Former Redlands City Treasurer Michael Reynolds was sentenced today after previously pleading guilty to one count of falsifying a public document.

Reynolds paid a restitution of nearly $38,000 to the city of Redlands. San Bernardino Superior Court Judge Michael Dest sentenced Reynolds to three years' supervised probation and 30 days at Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center, with the ability to do time on weekends and on work release.

The case stemmed from Reynolds' transfer of nearly $38,000 under his control to a Redlands general fund. Prosecutors maintain that the transfer was a cover-up of discrepancies in the city's petty cash fund.

Reynolds' attorney, Patrick Milligan, said after the sentencing that Reynolds was simply trying to protect the reputation of the treasurer's office, himself and the city.

Milligan predicted that the Redlands community would forgive Reynolds and would welcome him back.
