REDLANDS - A Cope Middle School math teacher was arrested Aug. 23 in Redlands for burglary, stalking and grand theft of personal property.

Court documents, supplied by San Bernardino County District Attorney spokeswoman Susan Mickey, show that David Allen Vogt, 42 was arrested for first-degree burglary, grand theft of personal property and stalking.

According to the documents, Vogt entered the home and trailer of an unidentified woman and took money and a laptop computer. The documents stated the combined value of the money and computer exceeded $400.

The documents also stated that Vogt maliciously and repeatedly followed and harassed the woman and made a credible threat with the intent she would be placed in reasonable fear for her safety and the safety of her immediate family.

Baker could not reveal Vogt's relationship with the woman because of the stalking charge.

Vogt is being held at Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center in Devore. When asked if Vogt would be allowed visitors, a Glen Helen operator, known only as Operator 29, said he is being disciplined and is not allowed to see visitors.

Mickey said Vogt is due in court on Oct. 6 for a bail motion.

Vogt's bail is set at $15,000, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Web site.

Police spokesman Carl Baker said the arrest wasn't made public before because it had nothing to do with Vogt's personal life.

"It's only of interest because it was a teacher and we don't point out people's occupations unless it had something to do with the crime, which this didn't," Baker said.

Cope Middle School receptionist Susan Schoeny said Vogt is taking a leave of absence. Principal Kate Pearne said she had no comment regarding Vogt's arrest.

The Redlands Unified School District was also declined comment on Thursday.

"All personnel issues are confidential," said Sabine Robertson-Phillips, assistant superintendent of human resources. "The district can't comment on anything."

Vogt has taught at Cope for six years, Schoeny said.
