Cop impersonator sought in Redlands

Police are on the lookout for a man in a Chevy Silverado truck who is impersonating a police officer and has pulled over at least one motorist, officers said today.

The impersonator pulled over a driver at Wabash and Citrus avenues at 10:30 p.m. Sept. 17. The driver, who saw flashing red and blue law enforcement lights in the windshield of the man's truck, thought he was driving an unmarked police vehicle.

The man in the truck identified himself as a state police employee and asked to see the man's driver's license. He asked him some questions, gave him a warning for a traffic violation and left.

Police said the man is white, in his mid 30s and 5-feet-9 inches tall. He is 150 pounds and has dirty blonde hair, hazel or light brown eyes. He wore an oversized T-shirt and dark jeans.

Redlands police officials said motorists should pull over for unmarked police vehicles and obey instructions but if there is reason to doubt the identity of the officer, the driver may ask for the officer's name, agency and can also call Redlands police dispatch, (909) 793-1911.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Natasha Crawford, (909) 798-7534 or Redlands police dispatch, (909) 798-7681.
