Wrongful Death Taser Lawsuit

By Staff Writer

As reported at http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0808/543346.html in an August 12, 2008 posting titled “Lawsuit Filed Over Taser Death,” attorneys for a Louisiana family filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in the death of Baron Pikes, 21, who allegedly died after a police officer repeatedly jolted him with a Taser. According to the article, the police officer is accused of shocking a handcuffed Pikes nine times with a 50,000-volt Taser stun gun while arresting him on a drug possession warrant. In addition, a coroner ruled that the death was a homicide. While the officer was fired in May, he is appealing his dismissal, according to the article.

Whether Taser misuse or police brutality and excessive force by police occurs in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas or elsewhere, victims of law enforcement misconduct may make formal complaints to the responsible employer and contact an attorney to determine if an excessive force lawsuit or police brutality lawsuit is ultimately appropriate under the facts and circumstances of the potential civil rights violation case.
