Suspect fatally shot after pursuit

A Riverside County sheriff's deputy fatally shot a suspect Friday night after answering a disturbance call, according to a sheriff's news release.

Deputies were called to the 67400 block of Dillon Road in south Desert Hot Springs at 9:28 p.m. A deputy was directed to Grace Church off Bubbling Wells Road, where the suspect was located.

The deputy tried to contact the suspect, who ran away, the release stated. After a short foot pursuit, the deputy contacted the suspect a second time and gave him verbal commands, but the suspect refused and was shot, the release stated.

The suspect's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin. The deputy, whose identity was not released, is a two-year veteran of the department.

Homicide detectives are investigating the incident. Anyone with information pertaining to what happened is asked to call the sheriff's Central Homicide Unit at 760-393-3500.
