San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy missing

Search and rescue crews are looking for a sheriff's deputy and rescue team coordinator who did not return from a hunting trip Thursday morning.

San Bernardino County sheriff's Deputy Paul Franklin, 48, left early Thursday with his sons and another deputy for a day at Thomas Hunting Grounds at 17644 Forest Service Road IN12.

He did not return to the car as expected around 9 a.m. Franklin was reported missing at 11:30 a.m., officials said.

About 20 volunteers are leading a search through the mountainous area for him. A helicopter and several dogs are also being used.

"We don't know what happened to him," said Sgt. Dave Phelps.

Franklin is coordinator for the San Gorgonio Search and Rescue Team and has led several rescue areas in the county.

No other information was immedaitely available.
